I have a confession to make: I never knew 13th February was supposed to be Friendship Day before I came to VJC. You can’t exactly blame me, seeing as how
- I’m from an all-boys school and
- International Friendship Day is during the first week of August anyway.
Hence, I’ve come to the conclusion that Friendship Day is really just a camouflage for Valentines Day Eve.
Anyway, about this year’s Friendship Day specifically, some J2s lament that this year’s celebrations weren’t as exciting as last year’s one, but on that point I beg to differ. CT Council put a few benches together in the canteen to form a temporary stage for emcees and performances. This year, they (cleverly) decided to position the “stage” at the entrance of the canteen beside the bookshop instead of all the way at the back of the canteen in front of the band room as was the case last year. At least no one would miss out on the performances this time. Besides performances, it was also fun to see who dedicated songs to whom, while CT Council also gave out a few strings tied together which were to be used to tie “Friendship Bands”. Check below for a video of some performances:

Of course, there was the annual Inter-JC flower delivery service organised by Biz Club a J2 class for this year. It was pretty popular last year, and this year was no different. Unfortunately, there were a few hiccups along the way. For example it turned out they didn’t have enough sunflowers to satisfy the orders, thus some people had to settle for two roses instead of one sunflower. Furthermore, some people from other JCs didn’t even receive the flowers they were supposed to. Despite these various complications, the sight of flowers and gifts all around the school was definitely a welcome sight and helped lighten the mood of the entire day.
Even after the performances in the canteen were over, Friendship Day was far from over. The Piano Ensemble put up a free concert in the PT at 3 to 4pm in the afternoon. Unfortunately, when I stepped in there were probably no more than 30 people in the entire PT. Nevertheless, who else but our dear principal, Mr Chan, turned up midway through the concert and stayed till the end.
Even after all these events were over, there was still OG BBQ in the evening which further promoted the whole idea of “friendship”. Alas, that’s a story for another post.
