JC Orientation was full of rubbish. Don’t get us wrong. Orientation was a blast but it resulted in Styrofoam boxes being used to distribute lunch. And where do Styrofoam boxes go after they are used? The rubbish bins. And the havoc does not end there. There are plastic bags and bottles in there as well. Basically, what we are getting at is: We need to show our environment some respect!
Today, almost everyone knows about how bad the environment is getting. But what are we going to do about it? Our landfills are overwhelmed with rubbish and waste and this is all because of us. What can we, as Victorians, do about this?
In summary, we should reduce, reuse and recycle as much as we can. Even if we have to throw something away, we should not engulf our trashcans with rubbish. There are many trashcans around the school, but many of us still squeeze in extra food items in them, leaving them in precarious positions. Should they fall to the ground, they will leave sweet juices and ice strewn all around. This is not a balancing act!
How you, Victorians, can play a part in reducing wastage is to stack the open Styrofoam boxes to maximize space usage and reduce the volume of your waste. Also, you can request for glass cups from the Fruit Juice stall if you intend to stay in the canteen while consuming your drink.
Furthermore, we should not waste food. If you don’t think you can finish the food you’re given, ask for less. We shouldn’t take the canteen food for granted!
Imagine if everyone was environmentally-unfriendly. The world will be ruined and, in the long term, we will feel the pinch as well. So, roll up your sleeves and be aware. Aware of everything around you. Aware of the difference you can make. Aware of the problems you can help solve. It’s the tiniest of actions that can make a big difference. Let us be the ones who contribute to making a better world.
